INTRODUCTION
This Returns and Refund Policy applies to books purchased from African Perspectives Publishing through https://africanperspectives.co.za.
We want customers to receive the correct books in good condition. Please read this policy before placing an order.
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, limit or replace any rights available to a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 or any other applicable South African law.
ORDER CANCELLATIONS
Customers may request the cancellation of an order by contacting African Perspectives Publishing through the standard contact form on the Contact Us page or by emailing francis@africanperspectives.co.za.
Please include your full name, order number and the reason for the cancellation request.
Orders that have not been dispatched
Cancellation requests received before an order has been processed or dispatched will be considered as soon as possible.
Where the cancellation is accepted, African Perspectives Publishing will refund the amount paid using the original payment method, subject to any reasonable cancellation charge permitted by applicable law.
Any cancellation charge will be based on the circumstances of the cancellation, including the nature of the order, the notice provided and any reasonable costs already incurred in processing or preparing the order.
Orders that have already been dispatched
Once an order has been dispatched, it can no longer be cancelled as an unfulfilled order.
The customer may refuse delivery or return the book only where permitted under this Returns and Refund Policy or applicable South African consumer-protection legislation.
African Perspectives Publishing does not accept change-of-mind returns after an order has been dispatched or delivered. The statutory seven-day cooling-off period applicable to certain online purchases does not apply to the online sale of books.
Pre-orders, personalised and special-order books
Pre-orders, personalised books and books obtained or produced specifically for a customer may not be cancelled once processing, printing, personalisation or procurement has started.
Where cancellation is still reasonably possible, African Perspectives Publishing may deduct a reasonable cancellation charge for costs already incurred, subject to applicable law.
Orders that cannot be fulfilled
If African Perspectives Publishing is unable to fulfil an order because a book is unavailable, out of stock or cannot be supplied, the customer will be contacted and offered an appropriate alternative or a full refund.
Any refund due under this section will be processed using the original payment method unless another arrangement is agreed
CHANGE-OF-MIND RETURNS
African Perspectives Publishing does not accept returns or provide refunds where a customer has changed their mind, ordered the wrong book or no longer wants the book.
This does not affect any rights that may apply where a book is damaged, defective, incorrect, materially different from its description or otherwise does not comply with applicable consumer-protection legislation.
BOOKS DAMAGED DURING DELIVERY
Please inspect your order as soon as it is delivered.
Visible damage caused during delivery must be reported to African Perspectives Publishing within seven days of receiving the order.
To submit a claim, please contact us through the standard contact form on the Contact Us page or email francis@africanperspectives.co.za.
Please provide:
• Your full name.
• Your order number.
• The title of the affected book.
• A description of the damage.
• Clear photographs of the book, its packaging and the delivery label.
• Any other information reasonably required to assess the claim.
Claims for visible delivery damage submitted more than seven days after delivery may not be accommodated where the delay prevents us from verifying that the damage occurred during delivery.
However, this seven-day reporting period does not remove or restrict any statutory rights you may have under applicable law.
DEFECTIVE BOOKS
A book may be considered defective where it contains a material manufacturing or printing defect that makes it less acceptable, useful or durable than a customer could reasonably expect.
Examples may include:
• Missing or duplicated pages.
• Pages printed in the wrong order.
• Significant binding defects.
• Material printing errors that affect the use or readability of the book.
• Other substantial manufacturing defects.
Minor variations in colour, paper, cover finish, positioning or appearance that do not materially affect the book may not constitute a defect.
Where the Consumer Protection Act applies, qualifying defective goods may be returned within six months after delivery.
The available remedy will be determined in accordance with the customer’s statutory rights and may include a replacement or refund.
INCORRECT BOOKS
Please contact us promptly if you receive a book that is different from the book stated in your order confirmation.
Once the error has been verified, African Perspectives Publishing will arrange an appropriate remedy, which may include collecting the incorrect book and sending the correct book at no additional cost.
The incorrect book must be returned in the condition in which it was received, subject to any reasonable handling required to inspect it.
ASSESSMENT OF CLAIMS
All damaged, defective and incorrect-item claims are subject to reasonable assessment.
We may request photographs, proof of purchase, packaging information or the return of the book before completing the assessment.
A claim may be declined where:
• The damage occurred after delivery because of misuse, neglect, improper storage or accidental damage.
• The book was altered or damaged by the customer.
• The issue results from normal wear and tear.
• There is insufficient information to verify the claim.
• The issue is a minor variation that does not amount to a defect.
• The claim is fraudulent or does not relate to a purchase from African Perspectives Publishing.
This section does not limit any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
RETURNING AN APPROVED ITEM
Books must not be returned before African Perspectives Publishing has confirmed the return instructions.
Where a return is approved, we will provide the applicable return address or collection arrangements.
The book must be securely packaged to prevent further damage.
Where the return relates to a qualifying defect, incorrect item or damage for which African Perspectives Publishing is responsible, reasonable return or collection costs will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
REPLACEMENTS
Where a replacement is approved, it will be sent subject to stock availability.
If the same title is no longer available, we will contact you to discuss an alternative remedy, which may include a refund.
REFUNDS
Where a refund is approved or required by law, it will generally be issued through the original payment method used for the purchase, unless another arrangement is agreed.
Refund processing times may depend on the payment provider and financial institution.
Delivery fees will be refunded where required by law or where the entire order was affected by an error for which African Perspectives Publishing is responsible.
PROOF OF PURCHASE
A valid order number, receipt or other reasonable proof that the book was purchased from African Perspectives Publishing may be required before a return, replacement or refund can be processed.
